GONE IS GONE – Gone Is Gone

This rock supergroup includes members of Mastodon, Queens Of The Stone Age and At The Drive-In.  With combined sales of over 4,500,000 albums and 3 unique diehard fan-bases, it’s easy to see why this release is so highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.  The explosive debut EP includes 8 songs that combine elements of each members’ previous projects, while still being original and uncommon. INTER ARMA – Paradise Gallows
CD – £9.99
After already having taken forward-thinking extreme music to unprecedented heights over the course of their short but propulsive career, Richmond’s INTER ARMA are back with another opus of epic proportions.   Harsh and acoustic passages (including the band’s first-ever foray into clean vocals) spar with complex rhythmic structures across nine sweeping tracks over 71 minutes of expansive, progressive heaviness.  Dense, funereal, and richly evocative, Paradise Gallows is a vibrant blend of doom, post-metal, sludge, avant-garde, black and death metal, and is a singular and powerful new addition to the band’s already monumental discography.  FOR FANS OF: Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Yob, Tombs, Ulcerate, Mastodon.

BIFFY CLYRO – Ellipsis
CD – £10.99/£12.99   LP – £16.99/£19.99
Biffy Clyro follow 2013’s critically acclaimed #1 double-album ‘Opposites’ with their seventh studio album ‘Ellipsis’ which will be released on Warner Bros. Records / 14th Floor Recordings.  Citing influences as diverse as Tears For Fears’ ‘Songs From The Big Chair’ album, DJ Arca and Deafheaven, Simon Neil has described ‘Ellipsis’ as “more of a punch to the nose than a big cuddle.”  Lyrically, the album’s songs tackle personal issues with the idea of “fighting back” a recurring theme.  Such themes are also apparent in the album’s visceral first single ‘Wolves of Winter’ which captures Biffy Clyro’s famous blend of angular riffs, pummelling rhythms and strident hooks.

Crazy Lixx – Sound Of The LIVE Minority
CD – £11.99
”It’s a milestone for every rock band” – that’s what lead singer Danny Rexon says with Crazy Lixx about to release the first ever live album of their career. And a milestone it is, in more than one way. On the one hand it is the perfect record to sum up four studio albums and more than a decade as a touring band in over an hour of energetic, live rock n’ roll with the very best songs from their catalogue and most requested fan favorites. On the other hand it also marks the end of the band’s most successful line-up with guitarist Andreas Z Eriksson as the lead guitar slinger with this recorded live performance being his last show with the band.

Trick Or Treat – Rabbit’s Hill Pt. 2
CD – £11.99
Trick Or Treat are certainly a crazy bunch of guys… while they are an absolute and super-tight Power Metal band, at the same time they like to share some fun with their audience. Formed originally in 2002 as a tribute band to Helloween, Trick Or Treat soon become a very popular live attraction in their area. on this new album, Trick or Treat had the honor to work with great international guests and friends like Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica and, in the role of the evil general Woundwort, Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest – ex-Malmsteen).

CD – £7.99
New England’s Vanna release their new album, ‘All Hell’, via Pure Noise.  The album was produced and engineered by Will Putney, who has previously worked with The Amity Affliction and Miss May I.  “‘All Hell’ is everything we’ve been through, all the problems, all the pain, all the lessons we’ve learned or were forced to face. But make no mistake. These songs aren’t confessions – they’re us being proud and owning the people we are now. This record is you on the other side of the hell you’ve gone through: better, stronger, and ready for more. No matter what you fought through, bled about and survived, we feel it, we’re with you and this records is our anthem. This is the sound when ‘All Hell’ comes crashing down.”  For fans of Architects, While She Sleeps, Your Demise, Beartooth.

Heart – Beautiful Broken
CD – £12.99
Heart has sold over 35 million records, and this anticipated album is their first in four years. Beautiful Broken, their sixteenth album finds Ann and Nancy Wilson exploring new songs, but taking some of their favourite “cherry picks” from their catalogue and rerecording and rethinking them. The title track and first single features a dynamic guest vocal contribution by Metallica’s James Hetfield with Ann Wilson.

Shura – Nothings Real
CD – £9.99
In many ways ‘Nothing’s Real’ is the perfect title for Shura’s debut album, which mixes the personal and the fantastical to beguiling, immersive effect. It features songs written and painstakingly recorded across two years in her Shepherds Bush bedroom – the site of which is blown up on the album’s striking artwork – but also reaches back further than that: into parents, childhood, past relationships and the possibilities of the future. All threaded together across the album’s often-affecting narrative, the record assimilates everything Shura loves – from early Madonna to Sci-fi, and War on Drugs to gaming – but is also the sound of an artist pushing themselves hard, further into the unknown

Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers – Rehab Reunion
CD – £11.99
How does a platinum selling recording artist follow a summer of “Fare Thee Well”  as a member of the Grateful Dead for their historic 50th anniversary concerts in Chicago and Santa Clara in front of 100,000 people each day ?  If you’re Bruce Hornsby, you saddle up with your own merry band of Noisemakers and make a fantastic new record, “Rehab Reunion.”

Dead Can Dance – ‘Dead Can Dance’
LP – £15.99
On their eponymous debut album, originally released in 1984, Dead Can Dance successfully harnessed a bewitching barrage of sounds, layering grinding guitars and even a dulcimer-like yang chin over a taut wash of percussion. If the range of the group is staggering, then so too is their disciplined economy, no song lasting more than four minutes or degenerating into formless cacophony. With the five group members continually interchanging instruments, only the vocals of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry remain as a constant focus.  This 2016 LP version is a repress of the original release.

Dead Can Dance –  ‘Into The Labyrinth’
LP – £18.99
Originally released in 1993, ‘Into The Labyrinth’ is Dead Can Dance’s sixth album. One of their most successful releases, its title a reference to the Greek legend of Theseus going into the Labyrinth to slay the Minotaur. It came when Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard had embarked on more individual personal paths, writing their songs independent of one another and on separate continents. Engineered and produced by Brendan at his Quivvy Church studio in Ireland, the album is an audiophile benchmark and also noted for being their first without any guests, instead they played all the instruments.  This 2016 vinyl version is also a double LP like the original release but comes with brand new cover artwork and an altered track sequence.
Dead Can Dance – ‘Spleen And Ideal’
LP – £15.99
Dead Can Dance’s second album, ‘Spleen And Ideal’ (1985), saw them experiment more with instrumentation, abandoning guitars in favour of cello, trombone and timpani. Widely acclaimed, there was now a richness of unification between voice and music, lyrics and structure, showing they had a concrete sense of the aural ideal they were striving towards. It’s title was taken from ‘Spleen et Idéal’, a collection of poems by 18th century French poet Charles Baudelaire. This 2016 LP version is a repress of the original release.

THE RAVE-UPS  – Town + Country
CD – £12.99
AMERICANA PIONEERS’ DEBUT – REISSUED AND EXPANDED!  While the members of The Rave-Ups held day jobs in the mail room at A&M Records, they were able to use the label’s studios at night and during lunch breaks to record what would become a genre-defining release.  Enlisting the help of producer Stephen Barncard (Grateful Dead’s American Beauty) as well as the legendary pedal-steel player Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Town + Country appeared on the scene in 1985.  The album gained enough attention to get the band featured in John Hughes’ classic 1986 film, Pretty In Pink. Sadly, their “Positively Lost Me” didn’t make the soundtrack, and the Fun Stuff Records issued Town + Country fell out of print .

The Avalanches – ‘Wildflower’
CD – £9.99   LP – £18.99/£22.99
Following an unprecedented sixteen-year gap between albums and all the revolutions the world has made since the release of their hugely acclaimed, award winning debut album ‘Since I Left You’ (2000), The Avalanches announce their new album, ‘Wildflower’, featuring Danny Brown, MF Doom, Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Jennifer Herrema, Biz Markie and more.  Created by the band’s core duo – Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi – ‘Wildflower’ is nothing less than The Beach Boys’ ‘Smile’ reimagined in the Daisy Age; a mind-bending cartoon road movie that’s best viewed with closed eyes and an open mind.  In the years since the release of ‘Since I Left You’ the album has established a rarely seen loyalty, its influence ever growing in the age of digital music, sampling and bedroom producers. The Avalanches, meanwhile, have become the stuff of folklore, with rumours abounding about a long awaited follow-up record. Today the rumours end. Available on the following formats: CD; deluxe heavyweight double vinyl in a quadruple gatefold sleeve with poster and a copy of the album on CD; standard double vinyl with CD.

Various Artists – Jackmaster DJ-Kicks
CD – £10.99
The next episode of DJ Kicks comes from Jackmaster. The Numbers cofounder and charismatic Glaswegian delivers an honest journey, unearthing a serious passion for the obscure boundaries of house and techno. “The mix is influenced heavily by how I used to DJ at the first party I ever promoted, named Seismic, and another named Monox which was a straight up techno night where I was a resident from the age of 17. And although it wasn’t my plan, it turned into a kind of tribute to the cities that really formulated me as a DJ: Detroit, Chicago and Glasgow.”

Lindstrøm – Windings EP
12″ – £8.99
Like one of his endlessly building tracks, HansPeter Lindstrøm is only moving further upwards. The Norwegian spacedisco wizard’s new EP, Windings , is three tracks of that nowclassic sound closely associated with Lindstrøm’s name: skyward synths, effervescent rhythms, and melodies that spiral beautifully into the great unknown. This is Lindstrøm in the zone—and if you’ve been paying close attention over the last decade, it’s a zone he’s never left. Reliable without sounding complacent and expansive while sounding impossibly selfcontained, Windings is the latest reminder that HansPeter Lindstrøm is on an unbelievable run. It’s an impressive display of virtuoso talent that only the stars can contain, and a dizzying collection of tracks that, as ever, test the limits of achieving total bliss and reaching towards total artistic infinity.
