DIMMU BORGIR – Stormblåst
Originally released in 1996, ‘Stormblåst’ (“Stormblown”) is the second album by Dimmu Borgir, following the underground success of their debut ‘For All Tid’ on No Colours Records. It was the first album to feature Shagrath as main vocalist, though the last with lyrics sung entirely in the band’s native Norwegian, and portrays a much more atmospheric and melancholy tone than their later releases. Dark, sweeping orchestral pieces vie with extravagant, melodic riffs and harsh, rasping vocals that spit the words with an almost vitriolic intensity, creating a masterpiece of symphonic Black Metal.
ZZ TOP – Live: Greatest Hits From Around The World
After over 45 years together, the Texan trio are finally set to release their first official live album ‘Greatest Hits Live’ on Suretone. ‘Greatest Hits Live’ picks the greatest moments from ZZ Top’s illustrious back catalogue captured with the phenomenal energy of their renowned live performances. It covers the breakthrough hit ‘La Grange’ plus three snappy blues-rock classics from the 1973 album ‘Tres Hombres’, through to their huge crossover hits – ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’, ‘Sharp Dressed Man’, ‘Legs’ – and then to the present day with their recent collaboration with Jeff Beck on the Tennessee Ernie Ford / Merle Travis ‘Sixteen Tons’.
FAITH NO MORE – King For A Day…Fool For A Lifetime
Last summer, Faith No More treated fans to “Sol Invictus,” the group’s first new studio release in almost 20 years. This year, the band will revisit two classic albums with Deluxe Editions of “King for a Day…Fool for a Lifetime” and “Album of The Year.” Following its Grammy nominated album “Angel Dust,” Faith No More returned in 1995 with “King for a Day…Fool for a Lifetime.” Recorded at Bearsville Studios near Woodstock, New York, it was the first without longtime guitarist Jim Martin, whose departure had an influence on the direction of the album.
FAITH NO MORE – Album of the Year
This album, from 1997, references the bands musical roots and features darker tones, much like those heard on “Angel Dust.” This release will be available as a 2CD set that includes the original release accompanied by a second disc filled with rarities related to the album. These eight bonus tracks include live versions of the album track “Collision” and the Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic, “This Guy’s In Love with You,” plus rare mixes of “Last Cup of Sorrow,” “Pristina” and more. These bonus tracks also appear on LP2 of the vinyl format.
The Ramones (Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy) sounded like nothing else when their self-titled debut came roaring onto the scene in 1976. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Ramones, recently named the “Greatest Punk Album Of All Time” by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time. This 29-minute masterpiece helped launch the punk rock scenes in both America and Britain, and also went on to inspire countless other artists for generations to come.
NEIL YOUNG 140g LP Reissues: Time Fades Away/On The Beach/Tonight’s The Night/Zuma
Four Neil Young titles reissued on 140g vinyl – “Tonight’s The Night” comes in a gatefold sleeve with lyric insert, while “Time Fades Away” and “Zuma” also both contain a lyric insert.
WILCO – Schmilco
Wilco’s Schmilco is a mostly acoustic record, but that doesn’t mean it’s a tame one. It bears neither the vicious, fuzz-glam guitars of 2015’s Star Wars, nor the dazzling, baroque-ish arrangements that fans have come to expect. But in their place is a spaciousness and chaos that might feel welcome after twenty-some years of enjoyed but now-familiar Wilco releases. Schmilco is loose, and that’s a good thing. Schmilco is Grammy-award winning Wilco’s tenth studio album and its follow up to last year’s Star Wars.
